GIA Students in Delhi Enter the Diamond Industry
Students in Delhi recently graduated from GIA’s (Gemological Institute of America) Graduate Diamonds (GD) Diploma programme during a special ceremony presided by chief guest Vijay Khanna, managing director of Khanna Jewellers and a BIS consultant to the Indian government.
Khanna, also a member of the Gold Council, shared his insights on the global diamond and jewellery trade. “There is a definite need for qualified professionals in the industry. And GIA is one of the premiere institutes that teach about gems and jewellery. I wish you all the best to begin your journey in our exciting industry,” he said.
The GD Diploma equips students with comprehensive knowledge of GIA’s International Diamond Grading System™ and provides in-depth training in the 4Cs (Colour, Cut, Clarity and Carat weight) of diamond quality. Students learn about advanced gemological techniques including how to detect and identify synthetics, stimulants, treatments and fracture-filled diamonds, thus making students ready for prospective employers.
“GIA courses provide a unique and relevant learning experience by combining hands-on learning with practical lessons. Growing consumer interest has propelled a need for diamond education. I’m pleased that GIA’s GD programme is bringing the most relevant and up-to-date information about diamonds to Delhi,” said Nirupa Bhatt, managing director of GIA in India and the Middle East.
