Gems and jewellery sector has ample scope to create more job opportunities: Rajasthan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje

Jaipur is India’s second important gems and jewellery exporting centre and the first for sales to foreign tourists. With a history dating back to more than two and a half centuries, the famed Indian Gems City of Jaipur is still a hotspot in Gems ‘n’ Jewellery. While addressing the opening ceremony of jewellers show, Vasundhra Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan said to PTI, “The sector has its importance as it contributes 15 per cent of total exports from India. Rajasthan alone exports 1,000 crore worth of gems and jewellery and thus is a significant player in this sector. The sector has ample scope to create more job opportunities.” She further asked designers to design jewellery keeping in view the choice of youngsters. She assured jewellers of her efforts regarding their demand for direct flight from Jaipur to Bangkok and Hong Kong. She says, “Jaipur has become the hub of not only coloured gem stones but also of jewellery. The gems business in the state is over three centuries old. The meticulous and intricate workmanship has earned artisans laurels from corners of the world.”
